We have identified a new mammalian protein arginine N-methyltransferase, PRMT5,
formerly designated Janus kinase-binding protein 1, that can catalyze the formation of ω-N G-
monomethylarginine and symmetric ω-NG, NG′-dimethylarginine in a variety of proteins. A
