The age-standardised incidence of prostate cancer in the European Union (EU) was 65/100
000 men in 2008, ranging in different member states from 18 per 100 000 in Greece to 126
per 100 000 in Ireland depending predominantly on the prevalence of prostate-specific
antigen (PSA) screening [1]. Agestandardised mortality rates are predominantly between 15
