Recent research has shown that components of the innate immune system are intimately
associated with liver disease and hepatic regeneration. It is well known that TNF plays a
major role in alcoholic liver disease, and that cytokines such as Il-6, may contribute to fibrotic
processes. More surprising, however, was the realization that some components of the
innate immune system, including TNF and IL-6 may participate in the initiation of liver
