The role of histone acetylation as a key mechanism of transcriptional regulation has been
well established. Recent advances suggest that histone acetyltransferases also play
important roles in histone-modulated processes such as DNA replication, recombination and

As new histone acetyltransferases and substrates are rapidly emerging, it is becoming apparent that protein acetylation may rival phosphorylation as a mechanism to transduce cellular regulatory signals.
